ALL OF LIFE IS MEDITATION

Do you hear what the violin
says about longing?
*
Stay light-footed,
and keep moving.
Turkish, Arabic, Greek, any tongue
is a wind that was formerly water.
As a breeze carries the ocean inside it,
so underneath every sentence is,
"Come back to the source."
–Rumi

there is such a thing as news,
whereas to inner knowing,
it's all in the middle of its happening.
To doubters, this is a pain.
To believers, it's gospel.
To the lover and the visionary
it's life as it's being lived.
~ Rumi

of the Below and the Above,
I break down into three parts:
the serpent, and in that or some other animal form I roam, living nature daimonically, arousing fear and longing.
The human soul, living forever within you.
The celestial soul, as such dwelling with the Gods,
far from you and unknown to you,
appearing in the form of a bird.

Stay light-footed, and keep moving.
Do you hear what the violin
says about longing?
The same as the stick,
"I was once
a green branch in the wind."
We are all far from home.
Language is our caravan bell.
Don't stop anywhere.
The moment
you're attracted to a place,
you grow bored with it.
Think of the big moves
you've already made,
from a single cell to a human being!
Stay light-footed,
and keep moving.
Turkish, Arabic, Greek, any tongue
is a wind that was formerly water.
As a breeze carries the ocean inside it,
so underneath every sentence is,
"Come back to the source."

John Moyne translation

They have grown old,
and their father has miraculously grown young!
They meet him and ask,
"Pardon us, sir, but have you seen Uzayr?
We hear that he's supposed
to be coming along this road today."
"Yes," says Uzayr, "he's right behind me."
One of his sons replies, "That's good news."
The other falls on the ground.
He has recognized his father.
"What do you mean news?
We're already inside the sweetness of his presence."
To the mind
there is such a thing as news,
whereas to inner knowing,
it's all in the middle of its happening.
To doubters, this is a pain.
To believers, it's gospel.
To the lover and the visionary
it's life as it's being lived.
