is to start humbly listening
to the warnings----inner and outer----that the universe will always be trying to give him or her.
This takes true discrimination, what Jesus called "the wisdom of the Serpent,"
detachment from our own plans, and a constant willingness to listen to the often quiet and obvious instructions of the Divine.
This family of warnings, then, is intended to make us all as alert as possible to the shifting currents of Fate and to the hidden motivation of others, which, if we do not attend to them, can destroy us.
No warning is final.
Fate always gives us hints before it strikes.
If we learn the Art of Attention, then we do the best we can for ourselves to secure our growth.
Let's---one more time---listen to Rumi:
Attend to the warnings that will come.
Do not expose what you are and have to destruction,
Remember how frail you are,
Who are less than a straw.
