The Boundless Ocean
1
I am the boundless ocean.
This way and that,
The wind, blowing where it will,
Drives the ship of the world.
But I am not shaken.
I am the unbounded deep
In whom the waves of all the worlds
Naturally rise and fall.
But I do not rise or fall.
I am the infinite deep
In whom all the worlds
Appear to rise.
Beyond all form,
Forever still.
Even so am I.
I am not in the world.
The world is not in me.
I am pure.
I am unbounded.
Free from attachment,
Free from desire,
Still.
Even so am I.
O how wonderful!
I am awareness itself,
No less.
The world is a magic show!
But in me
There is nothing to embrace,
And nothing to turn away.

AFTERNOON
is the essence of mindfulness practice.
This knowing is a non-conceptual knowing,
or a bigger than conceptual knowing.
It is awareness itself.
All it involves is paying attention
to your experience from moment to moment.
of seeing and being in your life
because the present moment,
whenever it is recognized and honored,
reveals a very special,
indeed magical power:
it is the only time that any of us ever has.
It is the only time we have to perceive,
to learn,
to act,
to change,
to heal,
to love.
It makes our experiences more vivid
and
our lives more real.

The two important things in life are the praise of God and the pursuit of God.
The praise of God is important, and it gives bliss in life,
but it is not the real attainment.
The all-important work in life is the attainment of God.
God cannot be explained.
Any attempt to do this always ends in failure.
The knowledge of Him can only be attained in the silence and in solitude,
and how to do this cannot be explained better
than in the words of the Urdu poet Zahir,
'He who attaineth best the peace of God,
his very self must lose.'
