Elsewhere in his writings about the Bushmen, Sir Laurens wrote of
‘This shrill, brittle, self-important life of today is by comparison
a graveyard where the living are dead and the dead
are alive

I know how precious the truth Sir Laurens resurrected was
because it was able to save my soul from extinction.
Some time in my late teenage years, my mother, Jill Griffith, gave me a copy of a book by Sir Laurens
(I think it was his 1952 book Venture to the Interior
because I remember the zebras pictured on the cover)
and it was this book, and then Sir Laurens’ two main books about the Bushmen, The Lost World of the Kalahari (1958) and The Heart of the Hunter (1961),
which I sought out soon after reading the first book,
that gave me the confirmation I needed
that my very different unresigned,
denial-free, unevasive way of thinking
wasn’t some form of madness.
As some evidence of how precious Sir Laurens’ writings have been to me,
these original copies of The Lost World of the Kalahari
and
The Heart of the Hunter are now so tattered from use
they are held together by lots of tape and some string.

The life one recognizes is only the mortal aspect of life.
Very few have ever seen or been conscious of the immortal aspect at all.
Once one has realized life,
that which one has hitherto called life
is found to be only a glimpse or shadow
of the real life
that is beyond comprehension.

Plato wrote that we live in a shadow world,
where we confuse the shadow of ourselves with reality.
This is the Nafs, the false ego, which stands in the light before God,
causing, so to speak, a spiritual eclipse....
The Nafs turns us from the One to the many,
enticing us with the things of this world.
Then man attaches himself to one thing after another,
which brings, at best, momentary satisfaction.
Through his spiritual practices the Sufi learns to chain the Nafs,
to perceive that it is only a shadow of reality;
and finding the sun of truth within his being,
looking upon it,
one is no longer aware of the shadow.

Then the Nafs is not destroyed, but harnessed.
The whole of man's being is attuned to God
and everything within him serves God.
This is the work of all on the path of illumination,
of whatever school they may be.
There is no other obstacle than this false self,
and there is no better means of controlling it
than by meditation
and by practicing
the presence of God.

Silence - is life and fulfilment

True silence is not only an absence of noise,
true silence is neither empty nor mute.
On the contrary, true silence is plenitude, it is alive, vibrant,
it talks and sings.
You may wonder how you can hear this silence.
You will hear it only once the big bass drums
– our passions, our emotions and our chaotic thoughts –
stop beating within us.
There is much work to do,
requiring a lot of patience and mastery of our psychic life.

One day, when all our inner storms have abated,
silence will come and wrap us in its splendid coat.

Then clarity will emerge
and we will sense something very powerful
reigning and presiding over the world:
the great primordial silence

Happy Day all the planets are direct for 65 days.....
it's about empowerment,
acceptance and reaching for your dreams
I know I don't know what is coming to me or for me or from me.
That I am unthreatened and content to live
with the unknown as a partner is progress
that came to my awareness when I was in Inverness last Fall.

It occurred during the simple meal shared at Sai Baba Temple,
festival for Ganesh after I left Ocala Haven.
I was asked a simple question by the man seated beside me.
I heard myself reply
"I don't know"
and I felt suspended for a moment in my answer.

It instantly liberated the 3 year old child
who had to have an answer for every question.
That freedom is growing with me.
I know you too are growing in greater freedoms.

When a person shows politeness by saying,
