Becoming An Invitation to The Divine
You can use yoga to get rid of your backache
or improve your focus and peace of mind –
or you can use it as a ladder to the Divine.

Grace is very sensitive to your presence.
If your presence is not there, its presence also will not be there.
This is the nature of the divine.

Devotion is that which is devoid of yourself.
What you call as “myself” right now
is just a bundle of thought, emotion and opinion, isn’t it?
If you rest these three things, your personality will be absent.
Then the life in you will be present.

Not very long ago in Hyderabad there was a mureed,
rather an intellectual pupil,
and he liked to talk.
His teacher was interested in his intelligent inquires,
and so he encouraged him to talk,
whereas it is the custom in the East
for the pupil to remain silent before his teacher.

One day the teacher was in a condition of exaltation,
and his pupil as usual wanted to discuss and argue,
which was not agreeable to the teacher at the time.
He said in Persian, “khamush”, which means silence.
And the pupil remained silent.

No one heard him speak after that, no one in the house nor outside;
he never spoke anywhere.

Years passed by and the man still kept silent,
but there came a time when his silence began to speak aloud.
His silent thought would manifest;
his silent wish would become granted;
his silent glance would heal;
his silent look would inspire.

His silence became living.
It was the spoken words which had kept him dead all this time.
The moment his lips were closed the silence in him began to live.

His presence was living.
In Hyderabad people called him Shaikh Khamush,
the king of silence or the silent king.

If you transcend the intellect, you become equanimous.
This does not mean you lose the ability to discriminate.
If you lose the discriminatory intellect, you will become insane.

In a samadhi state, your discriminatory intellect is perfectly in shape but at the same time you have transcended it.
You are not making a distinction –
you are simply here, seeing life in its true working.

The moment you drop or transcend the intellect, discrimination cannot exist. Everything becomes one whole, which is the reality.

A state like this gives you an experience of the oneness of the existence,
the unification of everything that is.

In this state there is no time or space.
Time and space is a creation of your mind.
Once you transcend the mind as a limitation, time and space doesn’t exist for you. What is here is there, what is now is then.
There is no past or future for you.
Everything is here, in this moment.

The whole aspect of spirituality is to go
beyond that discrimination and the survival instinct,
which are meant only for the physicality of life.
Samadhi is a state of equanimity where the intellect goes beyond its normal function of discrimination.
This in turn, loosens one from his physical body.
A space between what is you and your body is created.

Those who go into nirvikalpa samadhi states are always kept in protected states because their contact with the body becomes very minimal.
The smallest disturbance, like a sound or a pinprick,
would dislodge them from their body.
These states are maintained for certain periods
to establish the distinction between you and the body.
It is a significant step in one’s spiritual evolution, but still not the Ultimate.
The samadhis by themselves have no great significance in terms of realization.

Mahasamadhi is a dimension where you transcend discrimination –
not just experientially but also existentially.

Mahasamadhi means you not only see it that way,
you have become that way totally – discrimination is finished.
That means individual existence is finished.
Who you are does not exist anymore.

The life that is functioning as an individual life right now becomes absolutely universal or cosmic or boundless.
To put it in traditional terms,
you become one with God or one with everything.

The phrase “living out loud” describes a person
who is living their code of conduct in a transparent manner.
It suggests using everyday life as a platform
to prove the principle of spiritual law - to take desire and go after it
with intention and purpose regardless of public opinion
or the unfamiliar mystery that fosters resistance.
Living out loud is vulnerable, honest, and exhilarating,
yet unnerving for anyone heavily tempted
to retreat and surrender
to the conforming voices around them.

To return back to this bold state of being requires letting go of perfection. In human form we all make less than optimal choices. Mistakes are like cosmic emery boards filing away the jagged edges of our evolution. Yet, without the trying and failing, the ebbs and flows, we can never understand and appreciate the nature of growth and its endless gifts.

It requires letting go of the need to please.
When burdening ourselves with people pleasing,
we lose our identity and begin creating fragmented personas
with hopes of securing our position in society.
Because we don’t dare expose our perceived failures for fear of being judged, those very fears overtake and freeze us in a fraudulent existence.
We aren’t living a life,
we are managing our multiple personas.

It requires letting in a collaborative spirit with the Universe.
All things are working together for our good,
yet we may mistrust this.
In fact, we can often feel that nothing is working
and it is our job to get in there and control
the outcome through effort and worry.

Trust is key.

Living out loud
is cultivating that trust
day after day.

If you try to be aware, you cannot be aware.
People are always mistaking mental alertness for awareness.
Mental alertness will enhance your ability to survive better.
You can survive better with mental alertness but that is not awareness.

Have you noticed at different times of the day
you are in different levels of awareness?
Hmm?
So it can be heightened.
What is needed for survival naturally happens.
Even when it comes to survival mode,
not every individual is alert to the same extent.

If you heighten this awareness continuously,
a point will come it’s… where it’s no more about survival;
something that is not needed for your survival
will also come into your awareness.

When that comes into your awareness –
that which is not needed for your survival
is bound to be a dimension beyond the physical.

So when that comes into your living experience of life,
you’re on,
very simple.

High energy, stable; it will find its own way, this is not
something that you have to do.
‘Where is the path? I want to walk, I want to walk,’ it’s not going to happen like that. (Laughter)
There is no damn path.

And your Heart, bruised, pleaded with you to leave,
The pedantry, the arguments, the profaning of Love…

And return to the Simple Experience?

The simple Experience, not yet profaned by the mind,
Beyond knowledge and understanding,
Not poured into the mold of another's interpretation,
Not bound by prescription, proscription, and dogma,
Not requiring you to do this, and refrain from that,
Without cause, without condition, ever present,
A touch of Heaven ever Shining…

Grace, Unimaginable.

And what if, in time, that Presence in your Heart,
Like a Wellspring of Transmutation, within,
Diminished the terrible pain of your self,
Leaving intact all that you had taken yourself to be,
But stealing from your experience, the felt sense of “you”,
That very felt sense that had vanished that fateful day,
So long ago, in time, when time and all things Vanished…

And only The Mystery remained.

And what if, now free of the need for knowledge,
You returned to the spiritual marketplace,
Moved now only by Curiosity, Wonder, and Love,
And found yourself Dancing past the stalls,
Stealing this jewel from here, that jewel from there,
Until, your satchel full to overflowing,
You Bless them all, and return again…

To the Simple Experience?

And what if you then were moved by Delight,
To declare in poetic verse,
“Ah… this Most Beautiful Presence,
This Shining Radiance within,
This Exquisite Rapture,
This Fulfillment of all desire,
The Divine Thief that has stolen ‘me’…

I will call it God,
I will call it Brahman,
I will call it The Beloved,
I will call it The Holy Spirit,
I will call it Emptiness,
I will call it The Inner Light,
I will call it The Unnameable…

I will call it Love.”

And what if you were told,
To your surprise and amazement,
By some among the Friends you made,
That the ember in their Hearts,
Ignited, to their Delight and Inspiration,
In moments of Relationship with you,
Shining ever more Brightly, over time?

Until they found themselves, in time,
Imbued always with the touch of that Heaven,
Felt as a Radiance in the Locus of their Heart,
Sometimes the ambient background of experience,
Sometimes flooding the foreground, acutely,
Ever available to their mind's Attention,
Ever available to their Heart's Remembrance…
I will call that…

The Transmission of The Flame.

No finality in the milestones come to along The Way,
No flag to be planted, no summit to declare,

When my daughter was growing up,
I made it a rule that no one should teach her anything.

One of the biggest problems in the world is this:
the moment you are born,
everyone wants to teach you something that has not worked in their lives.

She did not need any of these tricks.
I just made sure she had enough exposure to nature and life around.

She grew up very joyfully.
But once, when she was about thirteen, she went through some emotional turmoil.
In this situation, I told her one thing:

“Never look up to anyone – never look down on anyone.
Never look up to anything – never look down on anything.
Look at everything the way it is.”

That is all it takes to make a beautiful life.
