our ordinary routines as well as our psyches,
is potentially “a lucidity stimulator”
undreamed of until now,
potentially catalyzing us to greater heights of lucidity.
But being like a dream,
how the coronavirus pandemic
manifests within our minds
—as nightmare or lucidity stimulator--
depends upon what we do with
what it has activated within us.
The coronavirus can help us to remember
that it is within ourselves
where our true power and agency lies –
another of its many gifts.

it is time to look around you
and check if your surroundings still offer you
the safety you need.
This safety isn’t only physical,
it may also pertain to other aspects of the self.
The armadillo might be warning you of danger lurking,
or it may be challenging you to inspect
if what you perceive as danger
is in fact an opportunity.

In his desperate desire to be able to sing,
he gave his life and his shell
became a musical instrument —
another warning from the armadillo
that we should look within ourselves
and consider our safety before making decisions.

AFTERNOON
William Martin's
The Activist’s Tao Te Ching
Change and anger are in the air.
Looking for answers to today’s wrenching challenges, William Martin turns to the Tao Te Ching
and finds that while Taoism is known
for its quiet, enigmatic wisdom,
the Tao can also have the
cleansing force of a rushing river.
He emphasizes that humans have a “natural virtue”
that can help them heal the planet;
shows how Taoism’s simplicity can be subversive
and its flexibility a potent force;
and reassures that
“when injustice is the rule,
justice always lies in wait.”
*****
Martin’s Tao flows within and through
those who ride the waves of anger and frustration
and gently guides them to true freedom.

Injustice feeds our determination.
Hate increases our love.
Wounds bring forth our healing,
and fear uncovers
our courage and serenity.”
