Thief of Sleep - Trans by Shahram Shiva
https://www.rumi.net/rumi_poems_main.htm
(See Read more below Afternoon Photos for "More")
This freedom is worth more than all the lands on earth.
To be one with the truth for just a moment,
Is worth more than the world and life itself.
Rumi
Thief of Sleep:
Translated by Shahram Shiva
and it will be the dawn of your life.
Out of that freshness you will light the world
with peace within yourself that never seeks.”

You reflect the King's face.
There is nothing in the universe that you are not
Everything you want,
look for it within yourself — you are that.

AFTERNOON
Translations by Shahram Shiva
https://www.rumi.net/rumi_poems_main.htm
because you breathe air?
Shame on you,
that you are alive in such a limited way.
Don't be without Love,
so you won't feel dead.
Die in Love
and stay alive forever.
Rumi
Sometimes a devoted Muslim, sometimes
a Hebrew and a Christian.
For me to fit inside everyone's heart,
I put on a new face everyday.
Rumi
with the joy of the unknown.
My heart is expanding a thousand fold.
Every cell,
taking wings,
flies about the world.
All seek separately
the many faces of my love.
Rumi
be sure of that.
Since in the religion of Love,
there is no irreverence or faith.
When in Love,
body, mind, heart and soul don't even exist.
Become this Love,
and you will not be separated again.
Rumi
I have lost the way in
and the way out.
I have lost the earth, the moon, and the sky.
Don't put another cup of wine in my hand,
pour it in my mouth,
for I have lost the way to my mouth.
Rumi
"In order to become the knower of ALL SELF (9) thou hast first of self to be the knower."
To reach the knowledge of that self,
thou hast to give up Self to Non-Self,
Being to Non-Being,
and then thou canst repose
between the wings of the GREAT BIRD.
of that which is not born, nor dies,
but is the AUM (10) throughout eternal ages (11).
Best ride the Bird of Life,
if thou would'st know (12).

and now I am ill.
My body aches,
my fever is high.
They called in the doctor and he said,
drink this tea!
Ok, time to drink this tea.
He said,
Take these pills!
Ok, time to take these pills.
The doctor said,
And get rid of the sweet wine of love's lips!
Ok, time to get rid of the doctor.

Additional Afternoon Photos
Never will a Lover's chest
feel any sorrow.
Never will a Lover's robe
be touched by mortals.
Never will a Lover's body
be found buried in the earth.
To Love is to be God.
Rumi
It is an endless ocean,
with no beginning or end.
Imagine,
a suspended ocean,
riding on a cushion of ancient secrets.
All souls have drowned in it,
and now dwell there.
One drop of that ocean is hope,
and the rest is fear.
Rumi
and never knew it.
By night I stayed with you
and never knew it.
I always thought that
I was me--but no,
I was you
and never knew it.
Rumi
Rather than looking to another to define me, the inquiry becomes:
Who am I, right here, right now?
Rather than forcing connection with others, the practice becomes:
In this moment, how can I best relax and support myself?
Bless our wacky, human selves!
Of course, we look to outside people, places and things to complete us.
Of course, we do.
Yet without a practiced connection to ourselves, looking outside
is a slippery slope of suffering, waiting to happen.
Here is Rumi, the ecstatic poet,
who says it so profoundly
in this translation by Shahram Shiva,
from the book, Rumi, Thief of Sleep:
"This aloneness is worth more than a thousand lives.
This freedom is worth more than all the lands on earth.
To be one with the truth for just a moment,
Is worth more than the world and life itself."
Okay, great. Self-love. Sounds right.
Yet, how do you do it?
Doesn’t self-love sound big, hard, un-chunk-able,
dense and massive?
What would this look like, specifically,
in Great Barrington, my home?
In your home, what would self-love look like?
Let’s chunk it down.
How about one thing?
Let’s focus on just one thing.
Just one kind thing for today.
What is one kind thing you can do for yourself, today?
What is one small part of your day
you can lean away from old behaviors
and lean toward that which is
kind, gentle, and ease-filled?
