otherwise you start falling out of tune.
If you start falling out of tune with the society,
the society declares you mad.
The society is mad,
but if you are not in adjustment with it,
it declares you mad.
So, either you have to go mad,
or you have to find a way out of the society;
that’s what suicide is.
It seems impossible to cope with so many people around you –
and they are all insane.
What will you do if you are thrown into an insane asylum?
It happened to one of my friends;
he was in a mental asylum.
He was put there by the court for nine months.
After six months
— he was mad, so he could do it --
he found a big bottle of phenol
in the bathroom and he drank it.
and because of that diarrhea and vomiting
he came back into the world.
His system was purified,
the poison disappeared.
were the most difficult --
“The first six months were beautiful because I was mad,
and everybody was also mad.
Things were going simply beautifully,
there was no problem.
I was in tune with the whole madness around me.”

UNTIL IT IS ONLY
THE ONE MOMENT
WITHOUT MINDING-MIND CONTAMINATES

ALL HUMAN PLANNINGS
ALL WORDS & THOUGHTS
THE TRUE UNDERSTANDING OF
TRUTH OF BEING POSSESSION
CANNOT BE EXPLAINED OR USURPED
No word can speak
the heart's emptiness,
or its fullness.
No thought can think
its vast mystery.
this very moment
whispers its presence.
we appear asleep,
until a birdsong,
a temple bell, a baby's cry,
a falling leaf, a candle flame,
or a single wordless gaze
from Silence awakens
space and no space,
presence and absence collapse
into a single flowing
where there are no distinctions
yet the uniqueness of each thing
reveals its mysterious Source.
but no sense of safety, either;
no doubt, yet no one
who is certain.
arises without interpretation,
and returns without grasping,
falling back to zero.
The Mystery moves your longing.
Let Silence take you
where the mind cannot tread,
deeper, still deeper,
until nothing is left
when the doors of the heart are closed.
People pursue spirituality with their brain: that is where they are mistaken. Spirituality is attained through the heart. What do I mean by the heart?
Is it the nervous center in the midst of the breast,
the small piece of flesh that doctors call the heart?
No, the definition of the heart is that it is
the depth of the mind,
the mind being the surface of the heart.
That in us which feels is the heart,
that which thinks is the mind.
It is the same thing which thinks and feels,
but the direction is different:
feeling comes from the depth,
thought from the surface. ...
The Sufis have therefore considered
the development of the heart quality as a spiritual culture,
and have called it the culture of the heart.
It consists of the tuning of the heart.
Tuning the heart means changing the vibrations,
bringing them to a certain pitch
which is the natural one
where you feel the joy and ecstasy of life,
which enables you to give pleasure to others
even by your presence
because you are tuned.
When an instrument is properly tuned
you need not play music on it;
just by striking it you will feel
a great magnetism coming from it.
If an instrument well-tuned can have that magnetism,
how much greater should be
the magnetism of hearts that are tuned.
'Whether you have loved a human being
or whether you have loved God,
if you have loved enough
you will be brought in the end
into the presence of
the supreme Love itself'.
Hazrat Inayat Khan
that is being stored up for you
like an inheritance,
and have faith that in this love
there is a strength and a blessing
so large that you can travel
as far as you wish
without having to step outside it.
—Rainer Maria Rilke
"I have no sense of self-esteem or self-worth..."
"Sense of self is gone,
where is the worth?"
Sadhguru answers a question on surrender,
saying it is out of a certain realization that surrender happens.
Going beyond striving for confidence and self-worth,
only when a person transcends his longing
is there a possibility
