It is a way of painting.
It is a way of living.
It is a way of transcending the banal inhibited self
and
finding the divine.

It is a struggling downward journey –
this stumbling, daring and devout pilgrimage
back to mature innocence and raw beauty;
to the sublime joy and the natural intelligence
and wisdom of the holy fool.​

The artist needs to know how to lose the plot
– how to not care and how to not know –
and how to actually enjoy that freedom
and understand what a blessed revitalizing state
​ all of that mess can be.

The most joyous painting is not done for the art world,
it is done for the inner world;
it is a self delighting other-worldly thing –
a getting lost in regression and solitude;
a sub-literate, semi-delirious way to be
with the spirited little fool in the depths
of one’s being for a while –
there to invent one’s art freely,
and there to find enchantment,
infinite surprise and the bright wondrous question

Dear God,
We pray for another way of being:
another way of knowing.
Across the difficult terrain of our existence
we have attempted to build a highway
and in so doing have lost our footpath.
God lead us to our footpath:
Lead us there where in simplicity
we may move at the speed of natural creatures
and feel the earth’s love beneath our feet.

Lead us there where step-by-step we may feel
the movement of creation in our hearts.
And lead us there where side-by-side
we may feel the embrace of the common soul.

To be alive is to be vulnerable.
There is no option.
Yet how desperately we work to escape,
deny, and hide that essential fact.
This effort is a tragic waste of time.
Not only is it futile,
it diverts energy

creativity, love and courage.

our existential vulnerability
can we possibly find
the adult courage and creativity
necessary for true transformation of our culture.

in simple surroundings is
