IN LOVE – MEMORYLESS ATTENTION
“when a Taoist sage is wandering through the forest, he is not going anywhere, he is just wandering. When he watches the clouds, he loves them because they have no special destination. He watches birds flying, and he watches waves slapping on the shore. Just because all this is not busy in the way that human beings are normally busy, and because it serves no end other than being what it is now, he admires it. It is for this reason that you get the peculiar styles of Chinese painting in the T’ang, Sung, and later dynasties, where nature in its aimless, wandering way is the main subject of interest.” (The Way of Liberation, p75)
Absolute, 'memoryless' attention is the open-ground which cannot include interpretation. Which is to say, to not comprehend the spectacle one is watching, is to truly to 'watch', everything else is perspective. This is what Krishnamurti has called “choiceless awareness”.
To 'never know' is to always be ready for the sublime enigma to reveal itself in every step, around every corner, from every vantage point.
AMAZING GRACE
"Twas Grace that taught my heart to feel,
and Grace my fears released."
Amazing Grace I include this here because it is important to note that grace does not teach the mind to think, but the heart to feel. And from Grace comes gratitude, from gratitude humility, from humility innocence, and from innocence we are born again to Beauty and Love (how's that for leaps?).
Now, the love of which we are speaking, in this case, is not simply the emotion of caring or romance with which we regularly associate the word, but is, instead, the act of attentively participating in life completely, and directly, at every moment, without expectation, bias, or knowledge. As Krishnamurti proffers- love is not about emotion, but it is when we "care for the watching".
When we 'watch' truly, we watch without right and wrong, true or false, and all the rest of the mind's inherent judgments. "There's vast mystery in the act of seeing", says Krishnamurti, and "This needs care, attention, which is love." (Journal, Apr. '75)
To look without 'the violence of knowledge', with full attention, in the un-bias of the accepting witness, that is when we are truly 'in' love, because love is absolute, intimate, attention. Only by completely realizing the validity of this observation, will we then accept Krishnamurti's dictum to-
"Love, and do what you will."
And we can only do that by 'following our bliss'
and
'not doing what we hate'.

CESSATION OF BURNINGS BY FIRE
And so we accept each lesson as it comes, struggling through it and using what we have learned to hopefully make other choices in the future. But what if the true purpose of our lessons was to learn how to avoid them, bypassing the potential pain and simply stepping into the knowledge without the experiences that the lessons present us with?
Can we make those decisions at the beginning instead of later, when we are mired in chaos?
Relationships are the best example of this process. Imagine that you are beginning a relationship with someone and you realize that there are issues with this person. You are reminded of past relationships and similar experiences with others; your intuition tells you that this is a repeat of the past and you feel uncomfortable. Do you continue to move forward, hoping that this time will be better, or do you step out of the situation and save yourself the pain of this lesson and simply learn it by giving yourself the choice to let it go?
The Shift is bringing us the insight and clarity to see our lessons before we experience them so that we can make a choice to have peace and joy in our lives, without first having to experience pain, sorrow and disappointment.
Our belief that we learn best through painful experience creates opportunities to learn lessons in this way. It is only when we have been burned enough times that we learn to stop ‘playing with fire,’ as the saying goes. That has been true for many of us in the past but there comes a time when our awareness grows to the extent that we no longer have to get burned, we can learn to approach our lessons in different ways and avoid the fire altogether. The Shift is allowing us to do that
When we are approaching a lesson, we know that something important is happening because of our emotional response.
Lessons make us feel angry, fearful, or hurt or can inspire us to act on impulse, throw ourselves into a situation or relationship, throw caution to the wind and act now and think later.
If we examine our emotions (which is hard to do when the adrenalin is pumping) we can find patterns—lessons like this have happened before and similarities to other situations.
This is a choice point, do we just jump in or are we willing to step back and give ourselves time to achieve emotional and spiritual balance?

~~~ Until the heart is empty, it cannot receive the knowledge of God.
Hazrat Khan – Bowl of Saki
When a person comes to take a lesson on any subject, and he brings his own knowledge with him, the teacher has little to teach him, for the doors of his heart are not open. His heart that should be empty in order to receive knowledge is occupied by the knowledge that he already had acquired.
from http://wahiduddin.net/mv2/VIII/VIII_2_7.htm
It is not solid wood that can become a flute, but the empty reed. It is the perfection of that passiveness in the heart of the messenger which gives scope for the message from above; for the messenger is the reed, the instrument. The difference between his life and the life of the average man is that the latter is full of self. It is the blessed soul whose heart is empty of self, who is filled with the light of God.
from http://wahiduddin.net/mv2/IX/IX_29.htm
There are many ideas which intoxicate man, many feelings there are which act upon the soul as wine, but there is no stronger wine than the wine of selflessness. It is a might and it is a pride that no worldly rank can give. To become something is a limitation, whatever one may become. Even if a person were to be called the king of the world, he would still not be emperor of the universe. If he were the master of earth, he would still be the slave of Heaven. It is the person who is no one, who is no one and yet all.
The Sufi, therefore, takes the path of being nothing instead of being something. It is this feeling of nothingness which turns the human heart into an empty cup into which the wine of immortality is poured. It is this state of bliss which every truth-seeking soul yearns to attain. It is easy to be a learned person, and it is not very difficult to be wise. It is within one's reach to become good. And it is not an impossible achievement to be pious or spiritual. But if there is an attainment greater and higher than all these things, it is to be nothing.
from http://wahiduddin.net/mv2/VIII/VIII_2_8.htm
All the great saints and sages, the great ones who have liberated humanity, have been as innocent as children and at the same time wiser, much more so, than the worldly-wise. And what makes it so? What gives them this balance? It is repose with passiveness. When they stand before God, they stand with their heart as an empty cup; when they stand before God to learn, they unlearn all things the world has taught them; when they stand before God, their ego, their self, their life, is no more before them. They do not think of themselves in that moment with any desire to be fulfilled, with any motive to be accomplished, with any expression of their own; but as empty cups, that God may fill their being.
