Mind Candy and the Illusion of a Problem
One of the aspects of the nature of your dream—as everybody's living within their own dream—is that it will construct itself to bring up the mind's suspicion that something is wrong. In either very subtle ways or very obvious ways.
But the whole thing is a game, it's a play. Every conditioned, latent mental tendency that is fear-based or issue-based will play itself to look like the mind's hidden fears of a problem. Something that will look like a problem comes into manifest expression. And when this is not recognized, it can bring up huge distress. But both the distress and the stimulus that causes distress, is actually one mechanism. While in reality nothing is going on.
In reality—not in the dream, not in the stimuli, not in the tendencies that bring forth the stimuli, but in reality—there is no such thing as a problem or an issue. There is no separate one to whom an issue or a problem occurs. There are phenomena that are orchestrated based on tendencies that hold the potential of drawing the attention to get wrapped into the mind to be seduced. And then a complex morass can in an instant come into expression. It can get more and more complex, the more involved you become with it.
But it's all so simple. The external phenomena are manifestations of the conditioned internal tendencies. And they play intermittently so that they look to be arbitrary. It's all created out of such intricate wisdom, whose reality is now. Reality is now. Now is felt everywhere. It's a feeling of wholeness. It's a feeling of fullness. It's always the same. It's not involved with anything but the feeling of itself. The liveness of itself.
The journey is about watching these mental tendencies and holding the intention to not be seduced into something that is only dream phenomena. It's all only going on in the mind. The thoughts that are in relationship and the stimuli the thoughts are evoking are all part of the mind. But there is something that is aware of the mind or there would be no awareness of mind. The awareness is everywhere, it's unchanging, it's now, it's always only now. There's no past in it, there's no individual that can be found in it. It's the feeling of unity and totality, of completion. And then there is the appearance that arises within it, which is your own unique dream that brings forth particular forms of stimulus that stimulate particular mental tendencies. And it's just about watching the process and falling back into reality, which is now!
It's so obvious reality is now. It's so obvious that the separate character is a creation of memory, the thought of who someone is. When you are in reality, you are in now. There is nothing prior to now, reality is now. The rest is a superimposition of this dream complex that is orchestrated—if you're ready—to set you free from it by realizing that the stimulus that is playing is arising from nothing more than conditioned mental tendencies. And it's all one thing, and the one thing is a superimposition, and the superimposition is a dream, whereas reality is now. Is now. Where it's all one. Everything is one. Everything is whole.
It could not be more simple. When you have been drawn into the mind candy, things seem so complex. But in reality it's so simple. It's simply whether the attention gets drawn into the mind's concerns based on its experience of external stimulation or whether there's just the watching of this. And the watching is always watching now. It's always now, what's aware is always now. And this drawing of attention is watched until it is recognized to be just dream phenomena. There are no choosers in the dream phenomena. There is no individual that anything or anyone is happening to. It's all in these dream phenomena. And when this is seen, there is just the falling back into the feeling of what is aware, which is the heart. It's all orchestrated to set you free of being identified with these dream phenomena that are all occurring only in the mind.
I mean, there's nothing more to it. As complex as it can seem when the candy is being eaten. In reality there is no such thing as a future or a past. It's just a dream phenomena, future and past, just stories. There's no such thing as an identity. It's just a story, and the work is about not grabbing onto something that inherently has no substance to it. And then you become more and more joyous and light-filled. The taste of your own freedom begins to feel itself. Your inherent nature begins to remember itself in the face of all of the conditioned mental tendencies that the dream can throw up.
And this is really the whole thing. This is the whole thing. The whole thing is actually completely simple, so why is it that the play brings up the stimuli for the mental tendencies? It is simply because you cannot be free of them unless you are free of these mental tendencies. It's all being orchestrated. It's living as your Self, which is your heart, which is alive right now. And the only thing that severs that taste is the habit of attention being drawn into these phenomena.
The possibility, like always, is right now. Right now! Just this! Just this, right now. Just the feeling of this. Now. Everywhere. And holding this gentle resolve to not get drawn into this dream, but to remain aware of its mechanics.
There is no such thing, in reality, as a problem to be fixed. No matter how real it may seem. Only once you have been seduced into this mechanical expression, this dream expression does it appear to be real. Live as your Self. Live as the heart. Live as the beauty, as the joy. And then the joy spreads; and the nature of the dream begins to morph, reflecting that beauty. And episodically when fiery things arise in it, recognizing it's a test, to free you from these deep habits. But nothing is really any different at all.
Your nature is pure love. Untouched, unburdened. To hold onto the hunger for this to overpower the conditioned tendencies to get sucked into mental habits. To fall in love with your heart. To fall in love with the Beloved. To fall in love with life which is always, only now. So just let go of these ingrained habits. It's what the life is about.
