A thin sliver of a waning crescent Moon is sailing towards
the diamond light of Venus (Aphrodite) early this morning in the predawn sky.

of the universe a billion suns away
- away from the world of terrible thoughts and deeds
done in the name of love and hate
and everything in-between.
I preferred the mystery,
then I discovered what others told me was the certainty,
then I longed for mystery again.

(Full poem at end)
By Stephen Roberts
I once was a child who played
with the sun and the moon.
I dreamed of flying long into the night
as a spirit free to soar;
a seed borne by love's brilliant aether wings.
To visit the untamed places
of the universe a billion suns away
- away from the world of terrible thoughts and deeds
done in the name of love and hate
and everything in-between.
I preferred the mystery,
then I discovered what others told me was the certainty,
then I longed for mystery again.
Is this a tortured puzzle from my youth returning?
Is some benign quest about to erupt again
and spew the pale ashes of wandering
all over my soul's landscape?
I trow not.
For this time my childhood gazes anew
with wisdom's finer chords
bewildered in the light,
entranced by the light,
gripped by the light.
Something too large is breaking forth
The sky is humble;
so too a soul touched by mystery.
It reaches wide like the seasons;
a yawn of impermanence entangled in deeper wisdom.
My once supercilious soul
lies scattered on the winds
of a wide beautiful unknown -
I am a child anew
playing with the sun and the moon once more
This time more gently.
