KNOWING REPLACES REMEMBERING WITH BEING
THE RETURN IS NOT A RETURN
IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ALL THAT IS
ONE IS UNABLE TO FIND IN HUMAN CONDITION
THAT WHICH IS NOT
BECAUSE I AM THAT I AM
I HAVE NOT SEARCHED AND SEEN IN THE HEAVENS
BECAUSE ONE DOES NOT SEARCH FOR AND SEE WHAT ONE IS
I HAVE SEARCHED IN HUMANS ONLY TO FIND WHAT IS NOT
INSTEAD OF “WHAT IS”.
WHEN ONE IS HOME
THE CONCEPT OF SEARCH IS NOT
THE INVISIBLE TO HUMAN IS ALL THAT IS
AS THOMAS MERTON WROTE****
"THIS IS NEVER REVEALED
ONLY INVISIBLY LIVED."

Some people live for God, some live with God, some live in God.
Those who live for God, live with other people and live in the activities of their community.
Their life is what they do.
but they do not live in what they do for Him,
they live in what they are before Him.
Their life is to reflect Him by their own simplicity
and by the perfection of His being reflected in their poverty.
Those who live in God do not live with other men or in themselves
still less in what they do
for
He does all things in them.
our actions are not ours alone,
they belong to God.
If we follow them to their source,
we will become at least potentially
capable of an experience of God.
For His actions in us reveal His being in us.
to one who is prepared to reveal them.
He has secrets which He tells to those
who will communicate
some idea of them to others.
But these secrets are the common property of many.
He has other secrets,
which cannot be told.
The mere desire to tell them
makes us incapable of receiving them.
He waits to communicate Himself to me in a way
that I can never express to others
or even think about coherently to myself.
I must desire it in silence.
It is for this that I must leave all things.

AFTERNOON...
In the midst of the struggle to care for my soul,
I read Wordsworth's poem,
'The Prelude,'
in which he writes about
'spots of time'
that nourish and repair the soul.
- little epiphanies-
that inflame us with a sense of the holy.
I began to search for spots of time here and there in my day.
I found them by stopping.
Just stopping.
"Come away by yourself to a lonely place and rest a while."
or the yard where I would spend five minutes or less
sitting still and receding into the quiet core of myself.
spots of time in which to be.

that nourish and repair the soul.
I believe he was referring to brief, concentrated moments
- little epiphanies-
that inflame us with a sense of the holy.

I found them by stopping.
Just stopping.
Some of my favorite words that Jesus spoke are,
"Come away by yourself to a lonely place and rest a while."
I began to "come away" to a nook somewhere in the house
or the yard where I would spend five minutes or less
sitting still and receding into the quiet core of myself.
Caring for my soul turned out to be simply that-
spots of time in which to be.
