Out of the Unseen - Matt Licata
In any here and now moment,
we can discover that our
nature as Awareness Itself
is in fact
the ultimate holding environment.

  While as an infant we depended upon
another to provide this environment for us,
in which we could rest in Primordial Beingness,
it is actually here at all times.

It is here now,
pouring out of the unseen and soaking
into every cell and strand of DNA.

With eyes and heart wide open.....
just look and you will feel it
 surrounding you... right now. ​

While we may not always
understand our experience [or others]

- and while it may never
conform to our ideas,
hopes, and dreams
about the life we were
"meant to live" -

we can come to trust
​ that it is unfolding uniquely, 
emerging out of
the unseen hand of Love.

AFTERNOON

The yogi is able to place the candle of his awareness,
or his attention, in a niche within himself, 
where the winds
do not make
the candle flame move.

That is where a sound, or a sight, or a smell,
 or a taste, or a sensation on the skin
does not distract him. ​

What is left to distract him, of course,
are still his own thoughts,
 his memories, his plans. ​

And it is here that the discipline
that the yogi must impose upon himself
becomes exquisitely difficult,
and something requiring
an extraordinary amount of patience.

Well, due to the stroke in my body,
I couldn't play my cello, play golf,
drive my sports car
and many other things.​

But it forced me in, inside.
It was fierce grace. ​

The grace of it was the turning inward.
And I certainly identified with my soul.
I didn't identify with my body.
And my mind.

My perception of myself
was of a spiritual being
​delving into humanity.

Everyone is saying Jim Carrey has gone insane, I'm not surprised.
Consciousness has always been regarded as madness.
They'd rather see me being a rich arrogant prick.

Two Movements of Spiritual Life

Once again I would emphasize that the contemplative life is composed
of two separate and entirely different movements:
one of integration or the finding of the self;
and one of disintegration or the losing of the self.

In a religious context this would be
the movement toward union with God-as-object,
followed by the second movement
toward identity or God-as-subject. ​

Of the two movements,
it is far more likely that the movement toward union
would culminate in experiences of personal deification,
because further on,
the experience of personal selfhood
– on which personal deification depends -
falls away.

It is this very experience of
no personal self and no personal God
that composes
​ the second movement.

Thus it does away with any possibility of a mistaken identity,
especially when everything we thought we knew is taken away
​ in a state of complete unknowing.
